About the role:

As a Business Intelligence Engineer you are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining BI and reporting solutions that enable actionable decision-making. This includes involvement in all activities in the systems development lifecycle, determining automation/self-service opportunities, guidance on best practices, governance along with performing operational support.

Working as part of the Data Science & Business Intelligence team, this role is focused on supporting Engineering and Products teams. The role works on assignments and issues involving moderate to complex analysis where data is needed by a variety of stakeholders. Where required also contributed to the wider Data Science & Business Intelligence team objectives.

You are required to possess excellent math, accounting, and analytical skills to succeed. In terms of academic qualifications, cost analysts have a bachelor's degree with strong business or financial training, such as finance, accounting, or business administration. This role is working with globally based teams and is required to work asynchronously.

Your contribution will be: 

  • Closely partner with Engineering and Product teams to design and build technical BI solutions from concept to implementation in an agile environment
  • Participate in the full systems development lifecycle, including identify data source gaps, providing estimates, gathering BI and reporting requirements, profiling data, establishing designs, building queries and front-end designs, performing code reviews, quality assurance, and deploying solutions
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure backend data structures and semantic layer are designed properly and fit-for-purpose
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of reporting
  • Manage and provide operational support and maintenance; perform incident and problem management, and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation
  • Ensure reporting quality, reliability and performance
  • Keep up with new technologies and trends for continuous improvement
  • Provide input into Data Science & Business Intelligence team strategy
  • Comply with data governance policies and standards

To be successful, we think you need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, management information systems, or computer engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in reporting and BI engineering or related roles
  • Experience with PowerBI and other BI / visualization tools (e.g. Tableau)
  • Experience creating intuitive user interfaces for decision support
  • Experience writing complex SQL Queries
  • Hands-on experience in full systems development lifecycle for reporting and BI solutions
  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g. SQL Server)
  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling.
  • Experience with reading stored procedures and modify them
  • Proficient in data analysis and analyzing data to solve a wide variety of business problems
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of database design (logical and physical, relational, and dimensional)
  • Strong knowledge of Data Lake, Data Warehouse, BI and analytic capabilities, and concepts
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and/or external data and processes to answer specific business questions, troubleshoot, and support solutions
  • Strong principles of financial analysis
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver presentations
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience with cloud solutions such as GCP, AWS, Microsoft Azure
  • Eperience with Agile method of working
