As part of our talent spotlight series, we sat down with the ‘Be Accountable’ value winner of Nintex’s 2024 Ignite Award: Group Product Manager, Jonathan Butler
The Ignite Awards are Nintex’s global annual awards, honoring the employees who ignite our business and culture and live our values and purpose in their day-to-day work with colleagues and customers alike.
As the winner of our ‘Be Accountable’ value award, Jonathan has lived this value in all that he does at Nintex. Being accountable at Nintex means we always hold ourselves and others accountable, we take initiative, and we always follow through.
Being a winner meant Jonathan received a personal & professional experience reimbursement to prioritize what matters most to him.
What can you tell us about yourself, Jonathan?
Being a social technologist at heart, I have come to find a passion for discovering how people from all walks of life use technology to improve their lives. As a Group Product Manager, I’m privileged to actively engage with others from around the world, while helping build solutions that are used by thousands of people every single day.
What did winning the Ignite award mean to you?
Winning the Ignite award was a huge honor for me. It was phenomenal to be recognized for Accountability. The award felt like a tangible testament to and validation of my work ethic here at Nintex over the last nine years. There have been a lot of early mornings and long days, but it’s easier to keep putting in the work when you know others recognize the effort being put in. Accountability is something I’ve always prided myself on in my personal life, and this award helps me know that I’m successfully showing up for others professionally, as well.
What have you done with your Ignite award?
With the personal side of the Ignite award, I was able to take a trip with my significant other for a getaway weekend last fall. With the professional side of my award, I am going to be traveling to the UK later in 2025 to meet up with several of my R&D colleagues in the London office and attend a product management conference that is being held close by. I will get to catch up with some of my colleagues on the R&D team that I work with daily but have never had a chance to meet in person until this trip. I am really looking forward to both getting to see the team as well as picking up some new product management tactics and techniques to continue accelerating the journey we’re on.
What has been your biggest achievement at Nintex to date?
That is a hard question to answer. I have had the privilege of being at Nintex for the last nine years, and A LOT has happened in that time. If I had to pick a single deliverable, it would probably be the onboarding automation that I implemented while I was on the Customer Success team back in 2018 and is still used today. But I’m not sure that I can say my biggest achievement at Nintex is just one deliverable. Instead, I think my biggest achievement has been my continuous growth into new roles over. I started at Nintex helping SharePoint on-prem customers as a member of the customer support team, and I now help guide part of the product organization focused on Process Manager. This has been a massive personal achievement for me, and I don’t think I would be where I am today if I hadn’t been able to stay accountable for continuing to deliver value back to the business and our customers.
What is the best thing about working at Nintex?
For me, it’s being presented with new opportunities for growth and not needing to find a new role to mature my career. While I’ve been at Nintex for almost a decade, I have the privilege of working with several team members that have been here for almost two decades and continue to want to work here. This is because Nintex continues to be a growth company, and when the company is growing, it presents opportunities for the employees to grow with it. In my experience, one of the best things about Nintex and the leadership is that they’re willing to take a chance with internal team members that want to grow within the business. I don’t know of many organizations where someone can start in support and wind up helping run product teams.
What advice would you give to someone new at Nintex for them to succeed?
Super easy: “Do what you say you’re going to do.” Maybe this is the “accountable” side of me coming out, but it’s amazing how many people struggle to keep the commitments they make (sometimes even small stuff). If you want to stand out and find success, my advice is do the things that you say you’re going to do. Need it to be even shorter? “Get stuff done.” It’s that simple.
